White Star Park

TPA partnered with Jones & Henry Engineers to assist the Sandusky County Park District modernize one of their most visited parks in Gibsonburg, Ohio. White Star Park is home to a retired stone quarry which attracts many visitors throughout the year to swim and scuba dive in the crystal cleat water, and stay in the campground. In addition to the main attraction, White Star Park is home to a historic barn and cabins which were donated to the county for preservation. This barn site is available for large private events and also hosts an annual antique tractor and engine show hosted by Sandusky County Restorers of Antique Power (S.C.R.A.P.)

To better serve park patrons year round, the Sandusky County Park District has long wanted to replace the existing primitive restroom facilities throughout the park with new modern facilities. This was made possible with the addition of new water and sewer infrastructure from the nearby Village of Gibsonburg. TPA’s scope of work consisted of various site and landscaping improvements as well as four new buildings throughout the park. These include a new bath house/restroom/concessions stand at the quarry beach, a new restroom addition to The Barn rental space, a new freestanding restroom/shower building at the campground, and a new restroom/changing
rooms at the scuba area. Each building was tailored to the distinct functions of each location within White Star Park, and used the local vernacular architecture as inspiration. The new buildings utilize a warm color palette and are all ADA compliant.
